Back-to-School: Birthday Display

It’s getting REAL, friends! I go back to work 3 weeks from today. Although, I’ll definitely be heading to my classroom before then!

If you want to know how I survive the B2S RUSH – you can read some tips and tricks that keep me SANE here!
I’m moving classrooms (it’s actually already moved, thank goodness!) this year, and I’ve been thinking about my classroom basically all summer long! Moving classrooms was just the inspiration I needed for some new decorations for my room!
One of my FAVORITE things to do is celebrate birthdays! Family, friends, dogs, and of course, my students! It’s so fun to make sure each of my sweet seconds is recognized on their birthday!
My students help keep me on track by looking at our birthday display! They’re always looking to see whose birthday is up next, and how many birthdays are in a given month. It’s actually a really great real-life graph and line plot.
I really liked last year’s display, but cutting out 24 of those cupcakes was not perhaps my finest idea. I laminated them first, and I guess I could have had my kiddos cut them out, but for whatever reason I didn’t.
This year, I’m actually co-teaching and my teaching partner and I will have close to 40 students! Even though we have double the space (our classrooms have the partition opened up), we also have almost the double the students. I came up with something that I {hope} will be a bit more space-friendly, and won’t require the cutting of cupcakes 🙂
Here’s what I came up with! The problem, was that I couldn’t decide which version I liked better! Fortunately for Instagram, (you can follow me @truelifeimateacher) I was able to ask for some help! The mis-matched version was a little bit more popular than the matchy-matchy version.
I personally loved how the single letter POPPED when they are bit mis-matched, so that’s the version I went with for my own classroom!
I immediately, printed and laminated. Y’all, if you don’t have a personal laminator yet, what are you waiting for? I think I paid about $25 at Target for mine. The lamination sheets are pretty inexpensive as well, as they’re super thick. Anything that I really want to last for several years (and typically not something my students use) I laminate at home.
Am I the only one who gets really excited about all things laminated???
So what am I using instead of the cupcake printable I previously used? I made some coordinated labels on which each student’s name and the date of their birthday will be written. Easy cuttin’ friends!
I also made these cute certificates to give to each student. I like to print/copy enough of these before school starts to just write in names and dates, and then keep all birthdays that occur in the same month paper clipped together.
I made color versions too, but I like to just print one black and white certificate, and then copy onto bright paper! Seriously folks, keep it simple! Here’s what last year’s certificates looked like. I’ll just repeat for this year, but with the new certificates!
Here’s what all the months look like. I think I’m in love! I can’t wait to get these hung up in my room!
I loved how these turned out so much, that I decided to put them on TpT! But I included BOTH versions so that you can choose which YOU like best!
Here’s a peek at what’s included:
